Ascona A front brake and spindle,

By Bob Legere.

In preparation for shotpeening, I polished the steering arms (spindles were done previously).
I figured that since the front end parts are now 33 years old on this car,
It was a good idea to magnaflux all critical steering parts, polish them, and have them shotpeened.
Fortunately there's a good MIL-spec/aerospace quality shotpeening facility nearby that does quality work.

I completed the welding of the (Wilwood) caliper brackets on the front spindles for the Turd.
These were previously deburred and polished smooth.
I hope to make a big dropoff of parts at the shotpeeners tomorrow.
Spindles, steering arms, two sets of connecting rods, valve springs retainers, and a lightened flywheel.....
There are price breaks to be had in quantities!

Got a bunch of goodies back from the shotpeeners today, including the steering arms and spindles for the 'Turd'.
So now I have no excuses, the next step is to prep everything for paint and then assemble the front suspension!
I'm afraid to calculate how many hours I have into this thing already.

You can see the thick custom 1" wheel spacers that are going onto this front suspension,
They are held in place on the stock hubs by countersunk-head socket cap screws.
Of course, with these spacers the stock wheel studs don't cut it,
So I installed some custom ARP wheel studs that are appreciably longer, and are made of much stronger material.
They are now 1/2"-20 thread pitch instead of the stock Opel 12 mm x 1.5 pitch.

Here you can see the completed hub/rotor assembly.
It consists of the vented rotor, a custom .250" spacer,
The hub itself with longer ARP wheel studs,
And the custom 1" thick aluminum wheel spacer.
